GEORGE APPLEBY

George C. Appleby, 76, of Des Moines, formerly of Grinnell, died Saturday, July 30, at Veterans Medical Center in Des Moines.

The body was donated to the University of Iowa College of Medicine. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery, Malcom, at a later date.

The son of Austin and Irma Bailey Appleby, he was born Aug. 20, 1917, in Grinnell. He was a 1934 graduate of Grinnell High School and attended Grinnell College. He lived in Marshalltown and Chicago before moving to Des Moines in 1964. He was a retired International Harvester salesman, was a veteran of the U.S. Army, and had been a member of the Masonic Lodge and Shrine.

Surviving is a sister, Ruth Pichette of Dearborn, Mich. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Leona.
