HAZEL GREGORY

Hazel Gregory, 99, of Grinnell, died Thursday, Jan. 24, 2013, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, Jan. 28, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Rev. Rose Blank, pastor of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, officiating. Pianist will be William Tinker. Casket bearers will be Doug Bergman, Gabe Bowles, Chuck Limberis, Tom Limberis, Bryce Hutchison and Randy Thompson. Interment will be at Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Hazel was born on July 17, 1913, in Alton, Kan., to Benjamin and Della Bumphrey Holtslander. The family moved to Osborne, Kan., and she graduated from Osborne High School with the class of 1931. She received her teaching certificate from Fort Hays State Uiversity in Hays, Kan. Following her education she taught elementary students in Portis and Downs, Kan.

On June 1, 1937, she married Keith Gregory in Ogallala, Neb. The couple lived in various communities in Nebraska, Kansas and Iowa before moving to Grinnell in 1947. While living in Grinnell the family owned and operated Gambles Hardware Store.

She was a member of the Grinnell United Methodist Church, Just-A-Mere Club and the Federated Women's Club.

Survivors include her daughter Karen Thompson of Grundy Center; five granddaughters; and several great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; and three sisters, Myrtle Hartman, Flora Bays and Iladelle Brandenburg.
