MAL GREGORY

Mal Gregory, 61, of Grinnell died Friday, Jan. 28, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines of cancer.

Services for Gregory will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, at Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Epperson, pastor of the Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Organist will be Margaret Wheeler and soloist will be Milton Severe.

Pallbearers will be Greg and Larry Blom Jr., Scott Cretors, Tom Gregory, Keith Johnson, Ken Thompson and Mark Wyma.

Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell. Memorial contributions may be directed to Beaverdale Little League in Des Moines.

The son of William O. and Maggie Troxell Gregory, Mal Gregory was born December 19, 1938, in Cooperative, Ken. He moved with his family to Kellogg in 1950, where he attended rural school and graduated in 1957, from Kellogg High School. After a stint in the U.S. Navy, he returned to Kellogg in 1961. He moved to Newton in 1968, where he worked at Maytag. He was married to Charly on July 26, 1985 in Newton and the couple made their home at Rock Creek Lake prior to moving to Grinnell in 1990.

He retired from Maytag in 1993.

He was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Newton and Grinnell, Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Altoona, Des Moines Consistory of Scottish Rites and Maytag Management Club.

Survivors include his wife, Charly, of Grinnell; a son, Scott Gregory, of Altoona; a stepson, Scott Maxwell of Baxter; a sister, Elouise Blom, of Newton; a brother, Dowling, of Newton; and five grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, William and Debloise; and three sisters, Gloria Gregory. Wanda Davis and Marcella Logan.
