ORAL F. GREGORY, 80

Oral F. Gregory, 80, died Saturday, May 6, 1995, at the Altoona Manor Nursing Home in Altoona, Iowa, where he had been a resident since March 1995.

Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 1995 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, Iowa. Rev. Brian Carter, Montezuma United Methodist Church, officiated the services. Miss Alice Underwood was organist with music selections of "In the Garden" and "How Great Thou Art." Burial was in Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma.

Oral was born October 30, 1914 at Gilman, Iowa, the son of William and Thula Cummins Gregory. He graduated from Montezuma High School. Oral served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On January 21, 1968 he was united in marriage with Helen L. Awtry, at Princeton, Mo. Since 1968 they have lived in Colfax, Iowa, and for several years wintered in Texas. Oral was a farmer and truck driver, retiring from Bruce Motor Freight in Des Moines after 25 years of service.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one grandson, Carl Gregory.

Oral is survived b his wife, Helen of Colfax, and their combined family: Betty Ellis of Garner; Vera Thomas Lull, Des Moines; Russell Gregory, Montezuma; Norma Van Ersvelde, Deep River; William Gregory, Montezuma; Janice Kahue, Sacramento, Calif.; Cheryl O'Brien, Des Moines; Terry Wilson, Colfax; Larry Awtry, Imperial, Calif.; and Lisa Awtry, Newton; 38 combined grandchildren and great-grandchildren; one sister, Hazel Johnson, Montezuma; two brothers: Claire Gregory, Montezuma, and Raymond Gregory, Marshalltown; and other relatives and friends.
