S. RAY HOLLAND
DIES SUDDENLY;
SERVICES TUESDAY

S. Ray Holland, 72, of 614 main Street, Grinnell, died Friday Evening at the home of a brother in Mt. Pleasant. He had been visiting his relatives there when he was suddenly taken ill.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday from the First Assembly of God church in Grinnell with the Rev. Taylor Stark of Excelsior Springs, Mo., and the Rev. Donald A. Rich, pastor of the church officiating. Vocal music will be provided by Mr. and Mrs. Emil Gerard, accompanied by Mrs. James Wilson at the organ.

Pallbearers, all nephews, will be Paul Holland, Donald Holland, Jerry Holland, Omar Trout, Paul Welcher and Eugene Welcher. Burial will be in the IOOF cemetery at Brooklyn. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home.

The son of Theodore K. and Mary Smith Holland, he was born in Mt. Hamill, Lee county, Iowa, on Oct. 9th, 1894. He attended the schools near the family home and had worked on farms near Mt. Pleasant.

On Jan. 17th, 1916, he was married to Regina Hasso at Mt. Pleasant and she preceded him in death on Dec. 8th, 1957. To the union were born four children, one of whom survives, Larry Dean Holland, a member of the Iowa State Patrol at Oelwein.

Mr. and Mrs. Holland lived at Brooklyn for some 20 years where he operated a produce and hatchery plant. In 1947, they moved to Grinnell to make their home. While in Grinnell, Mr. Holland was a partner in the Hudson automobile agency. Later he operated a Tastee Freeze store and still later, the Dixie Inn restaurant until retiring due to ill health.

He was a member of the First Assembly of God church and worked for his church as a layman in several capacities.

Mr. Holland is survived by his son, Larry; two grandchildren, Susan Kay and Steven Dean Holland; three brothers, Thomas Lee Holland of Tucson, Ariz., Charles Bert Holland of Mountain Grove, Mo., Dale Holland of Mt. Pleasant; and three sisters, Mrs. Cecil (Nellie) Trout of Mt. Pleasant, Mrs. Bertha Mickey of Grinnell, and Mrs. Nora Jarrett of Norwood, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Regina; and three children, Raymond Earl at age 17, Doris Louise at age 8, and Donald in infancy. Also preceding him in death were two brothers, Jesse and Harry Holland; and a sister, Mrs. Viola Welcher.
