FRANCES HALL

Frances E. Hall, 83, of Grinnell died at her home on Thursday, Aug. 26, 2010.

A celebration of life service was held Monday, Aug. 30, at Madison Church of Christ, rural Brooklyn, with the Rev. Dennis Smith, pastor, officiating. Interment was in Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery.

Memorials may be designaed to the Frances Hall Memorial Fund, PO Box 368, Grinnell IA 50112 to benefit the Madison Church of Christ, Poweshiek County 4-H and Heritage Park. Memorials and condolences may be shared with her family at www.smithfh.com.

She was born Nov. 10, 1926, to William and Margaret Wilda Fuller in Keswick. She played basketball at Gibson High School prior to attending Guernsey High School from which she graduated in 1944. During World War II she trained to be an air traffic controller. At the conclusion of the war, she entered Iowa State Teachers' College from which she received a degree in elementary education. She taught in schools in Stanwood and Grinnell.

On June 25, 1950, she was united in marriage with Norman Robert Hall at Madison Church of Christ. They farmed north of Brooklyn for four years. In 1954 they moved to a farm east of Grinnell where they farmed for 26 years. They were active in Madison Church of Christ and the American Farm Bureau and 4-H in which Frances as a leader for 20 years. She also was a member of the Poweshiek County Fair board of directors; Grinnell Regional Hospital Auxiliary; Grinnell Master Gardeners; and a co-founder of Heritage Park.

She had been recognized as a longtime 4-H leader and had received the Wallace's Farmer "Homemaker of the Year" Award and Volunteer of the Year Award from Gov. Terry Branstad.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norman Hall of Grinnell; her son Dennis Hall of San Francisco, Calif., and her daughter, Sue Bouchard of Altoona; four grandchildren; and her brother, Max Fuller of Longmont, Colo. She was preceded in death by her parents.
