Melvin Elmer Peterson, 69, of rural Montezuma died Aug. 13 at University Hospitals in Iowa City.
He was born Nov. 21, 1923 at Montezuma, the son of Elmer and Clara Lacaeyse Peterson. He was graduated from Montezuma High School in l942. On Nov. 4, 1945, he was united in marriage with N. Edythe Meissner. To this union two children were born. Edythe died Aug.16, 1983. Melvin farmed all his life. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife.
Melvin is survived by a daughter, Marilyn Collier of Chico, Calif.; a son, Randall Peterson of Montezuma; two grandchildren: Aimee and Eric Peterson of Kansas City; two sisters: Vera (Mrs. Elmer) Urfer of Malcom and Bette Allen of Montezuma, and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Aug. 17 at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with Father Joseph Rogers of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, officiating.
Casketbearers were Ron Urfer, Rodney Hamilton, Terry Stephens, John Ahrens, Fred Riddle, and Homer Taylor with interment in Jackson Township cemetery, Montezuma.
