Sept. 6, 1901--The many friends of John E. Carlstedt were shocked and pained to hear of his sudden death on Wednesday afternoon of heart disease. He had been at work until a few hours previously, when he went home only to pass away in a few short hours. John Carlstedt was born in Sweden in 1857. He came to Grinnell in 1889 and has resided here ever since. In March, 1900, he was united in marriage with Miss Mrya (Myra) Rhodes, who with one child, a son aged seven months, survive him. The funeral service will be held this afternoon at the home, conducted by Rev. W.P. Stoddard. The I.O.O.F., of which order Mr. Carlstedt was an active member, will have charge of the services at the tomb. Mr. Carlstedt had lived in Grinnell twelve years and had made friends with all. He was always courteous, kind and willing, a steady, skilled mechanic at his trade of tinner and plumber. He was a member of the Swedish Lutheran church at Moline. His brother, U.S. Carlstedt, arrived yesterday to attend the funeral. Mr. Carlstedt was a Mason and a Woodman. He was also a member of the Apollo Club, and popular in each.
