GILES E. CRIDER, 85

Giles Edward Crider, 85, of the Kahl Home in Davenport, Iowa, died Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2002, at his home.

A memorial Mass was Tuesday, Sept. 17. The body was cremated. Burial with military honors was at Calvary Cemetery, Brooklyn. Memorials are to the Kahl Home, 1101 West 9th Street, Davenport, Iowa, 52804. Leming Funeral & Cremation Service in Iowa City handled arrangements.

Mr. Crider was born Aug. 15, 1917, in Brooklyn, the son of Guy E. & Kathryn (Gallagher) Crider. He attended country schools near Guernsey and St. Ambrose University in Davenport.

On May 10, 1947, he married Peggy L. Frank at St. Theodore Catholic Church in Chicago, Ill.

He was a World War II veteran who served with the U.S. Army Air Force in Europe and Africa. Mr. Crider was employed by General Electric in Davenport and Des Moines. After retiring in the early 1970s, he returned to Brooklyn. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus, Elks's Lodge and Kiwanis Club. He also had been president of Davenport Country Club.

Survivors include five children, Giles Crider of Jacksonville, Ala., Guy Crider of Canon City, Colo., Peter Crider of Bethel, Alaska, Mary Hutchinson of Arroyo Grande, Calif., and Susan Teuton of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Peggy; a brother, Francis Crider; a daughter, Debra; and a son, Christopher.
