Mrs. Dena Eames, 83 of 1319 Spencer St., Grinnell, died early Friday morning, Jan. 29, following a brief illness.

The daughter of Gabrial and Torbor Thompson Strand, she was born on March 30, 1897 at Dillon, Iowa. During her early youth her parents moved to the Laurel community; when she was five years old, they moved to Newburg where she received her education and lived most of her life.

On Feb. 14, 1911, she was married to Thomas S. Eames. Following their marriage, the couple farmed and also operated a garage in Newburg for a number of years. They then moved to a farm near Gilman. Her husband preceded her in death on Feb. 14. 1944, after which Mrs. Eames moved to Grinnell.

She was a member of the Gillman Methodist Church and the Central Iowa Button Club.

Mrs. Eames is survived by her daughter, Martha Hotchkin of Grinnell; her son, Carroll O. Eames of Gilman; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, her son Daryl, one grandson, a sister and her brothers.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eames were held at 2 p.m. today (Monday, Feb. l) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home. The Rev. Gordon Vickery, pastor of the Gilman Methodist Church, officiated, and interment was in the Stavangar Cemetery north of Gilman.

Organist was Kathleen Heffner. Serving on the flower committee were Etta Jackson and Mildred Jones. Pallbearers included Tom Eames, Richard Roe, Jim Hotchkin, Tom Hotchkin, Allen Schlosser and Robert Pierce.
