JERRY SWITZER RITES TUESDAY

Jerry L. Switzer, 47, of No. 8 College Park Rd., Grinnell, died of cancer Sunday morning Aug. 5, at Grinnell General Hospital.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at the United Church of Christ-Congregational, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the church, and the Rev. Daniel I. Ogata, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church, officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials in Mr. Switzer's name may be made to Hospice Grinnell or the First Presbyterian Church. Friends may call at the Smith Funeral Home from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday.

The son of Henry and Corinne Dice Switzer, he was born June 12, 1937, at Frankfort, Ind. He attended school at Iowa Falls and was a graduate of Grinnell High School. He attended Grinnell College and later entered the U.S. Air Force.

On Dec. 17, 1958, he was married to Jane Austin Howard at Fort Stanton, N.M. The couple lived in Grand Forks, N.D., and Minneapolis, Minn., before moving to Grinnell in 1964. Mr. Switzer was associated with his father in the operation of Best Western Motel Grinnell.

Following the death of his wife, he was married to Darlene Walther Bos on June 30, 1973, in Grinnell.

He was past president of the Grinnell Lions Club and the Grinnell Country Club. He was a member and deacon of the First Presbyterian Church. He was also a member of the Grinnell Community Theater Board of Directors, the Town and Country Singers and the First Presbyterian Church choir. He was also a Best Western governor for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Darlene; his children, Corrine E. Switzer of Marshalltown and Jerry L. (Jay) Switzer and Laurie Ann Bos Switzer, both of Grinnell; his parents; and one brother, Phillip T. Switzer of Montezuma. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane, on Oct. 17, 1972.
