DAVID J. DILLMAN

David J. Dillman, 38, of Marion, died on Tuesday, July 12, at St. Luke's Hospital in Cedar Rapids of a pulmonary embolism.

A funeral service was held Saturday, July 16, at 11 a.m. at the Grinnell Christian Church in Grinnell. Officiants were the Rev. John Epperson of the Grinnell Christian Church, Pastor Steven Bentor, of Faith Bible Church, and Jerome Schmidt, Brother in Christ of David's.

Casket bearers were Bill Cronbaugh, Jim Emery, Nick Ford, Dave Kunkle, Bob Bentz, Charles McDowell, Jeff Meyer, Darrin Nebraska, Mike Rodman and Russ Schmidt. Burial was at the Prairie View Cemetery in Gilman.

He was born on March 10, 1967, in Marshalltown, to Glen and Rosella Scobee Dillman. He was reared on the family farm near Gilman and graduated from SEMCO High School with the Class of 1985. He received a degree in electrical engineering from Kirkwood Community College and a bachelor of arts degree in computer science from Mount Mercy College.

On May 19, 1989, he was married to Hayley Sietmann in Marshalltown. The couple lived in Marion, where he worked as an electrical engineer for the Rockwell-Collins Company in Cedar Rapids. He was involved in Boy Scouts as a den leader and he enjoyed camping, flying model airplanes and fishing.

He is survived by his wife, Hayley Dillman of Marion; two children, Ryker and Danica Dillman of Marion; his parents, Glen and Rosella Dillman of Gilman; two sisters, Nancy Dillman of Grinnell and Lori Edge of Newton; and two brothers, Jeff Dillman of Ames and Tom Dillman of Grinnell.

He was preceded in death by his brother, William; his paternal grandparents, Robert and Dolly Dillman; and is maternal grandparents, Clarence and Ella Scobee.

A memorial fund in his name will be established and sent in care of his wife, Hayley Dillman, 1915 Geode Street, Marion, Iowa 52302. Condolences may be sent to the family via the Smith Funeral Home website, www.smnithfh.com.
