MILLARD J. WILCOX

A 69-year-old Brooklyn man died in the University Hospitals in Iowa City after a car-truck crash that occurred near the Brooklyn I-80 Standard service station at 4:55 p.m. on Thursday, June 2.

Funeral services for Millard J. Wilcox, night dispatcher for the Poweshiek C ounty sheriff's department, were set for 1:30 p.m. today (Monday) in the Nevenhoven Funeral Home in Brooklyn. The Rev. Patrick McCoy, pastor of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, officiated, and burial was in the Calvary Cemetery in Brooklyn,.

Born on Sept. 18, 1907, in Waterloo, he was the son of Clarence and Jesse Branson Wilcox. His mother died 18 days after his birth, and he was raised by grandparents in Deep River, where he received his education.

On Feb. 20, 1935, he married Frances Cram in Brooklyn. The couple moved to Brooklyn in 1944 from Montezuma. Wilcox was a mechanic for 36 years; operated the Wilcox TV Store in Brooklyn for 15 years, and for the past six years had been employed by the sheriff's department. He also served on the fire department for 25 years.

He is survived by his wife, Frances; two sons, Jerry of Tama and William of Brooklyn; one daughter, Mrs. Archie (Shirley) Bair; two sisters, Mrs. Clare Elke and Mrs. Eloise Copelin of Tulsa, Okla.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; and one granddaughter.

Charges are pending in the accident.
