JOHN MOYER
RITES TUESDAY

John J. Moyer, 87, of 708 Elm St., Grinnell, died Friday evening at his home of an apparent stroke.

The Mass of the Resurrection will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with the Rev. Harry Linnenbrink officiating. The Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at the Smith Funeral Home. Burial will be at the Calvary section of Hazelwood Cemetery.

The son of Charles and Margaret Weber Moyer, he was born Nov. 12, 1891, in the Sheridan community, Tama County. He was married to Mildred Strong on June 8, 1918, in Tama. The couple lived on farms in the Malcom are until moving to Grinnell in 1943. While in Grinnell, Mr. Moyer was employed at the former St. Francis Hospital maintenance department for 16 years. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife, Mildred; 12 children, Mrs. Harold (Arlene) Pierce of Montezuma, James Moyer of Brooklyn, Robert Moyer of Dubuque, Francis Moyer of Grinnell, Allan Moyer of Grinnell, Mrs. Keith (Maxine) Osborn of Montezuma, Dean Moyer of Loveland, Colo., Harold Moyer of Grinnell, Mrs. John (Karol) Gilliland of Marshalltown, Mrs. John (Mary) Schmidt of Grinnell, Mrs. Gary (Joyce) Lincoln of Stuart, and Roger Moyer of Grinnell; 36 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Margaret and Katherine Moyer, both of Tama and Mrs. Scott (Emma) Dee of the Sheridan community; and a brother, Henry Moyer of Tama. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, John Jr. in 1927; a grandchild; five brothers and two sisters.
