RITES IN CALIFORNIA

Funeral services were held Nov. 2 in Berkeley, Calif., for Marjorie Sutherland Wheeler, a former resident of the Grinnell area and a Grinnell College graduate who died Oct. 31 in Berkeley at the age of 86.

Mrs. Wheeler was born in the Gilman area. In 1908 she graduated from Grinnell College.

After graduating from college, Mrs. Wheeler taught high school English in Iowa for a short time. She then taught English to foreigners in New York. In 1919 she went west doing newspaper work in Oregon and California.

In 1921, she married Richmond Wheeler, a chemistry teacher at Berkeley high school. Mr. Wheeler preceded her in death in 1948.

Mrs. Wheeler was a member of the Berkeley branch of Women's International League for Peace and Freedom, the Fellowship of Reconciliation and the U.S. Humane Society.
