DOROTHY HUGHES RITES FRIDAY

Dorothy Hughes, 71, of 709 Elm St., Grinnell, died of a heart attack Tuesday, Dec. 15, at her home.

The funeral mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m., Friday at St. Mary's Catholic Church, with Rev. Dr. Anthony G. Farrell officiating. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. The rosary and scripture service were recited at 7 p.m. Thursday at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Ora Jene and Nettie Williamson Norris, she was born on Aug. 15, 1916 in Montezuma. She attended Brooklyn schools and then came to Grinnell.

She was married to Edward T. Hughes in Marengo, and the couple continued to live in Grinnell. Mrs. Hughes had worked for a number of years as an office manager for Grinnell Transport, then as a secretary at Stadiums Unlimited until her retirement in 1986.

She was a member of St. Mary's, the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church, the American Legion and VFW auxiliaries, the Moose Lodge Auxiliary of Newton and the Eagles Auxiliary of Grinnell.

She is survived by two daughters, Karen Greiner of Mathis, Texas, and Linda Stoaks of Kellogg; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1984; her parents; two brothers, Gerald E. Norris in infancy and Robert W. "Jack" Norris; and one sister, Opal M. Beason.
