SERVICES TUESDAY

James Hughes, 61, of 804 High St., died Saturday evening, Feb. 7, at Grinnell General Hospital West following an illness of the past ten years.

The son of William and Annie Gartland Hughes, Mr. Hughes was born Aug. 1, 1908 at Grinnell and attended the Grinnell public schools.

On Nov. 17, 1934, Mr. Hughes married Velvia Cottrell. To this union two children were born--Larry Hughes of Denver, Colo., and Mrs. Sharon Beaderstadt of Grinnell. After their marriage the couple lived in Grinnell with the excpetion of two years spent in Montezuma.

Mr. Hughes was employed for 12 years a the Maytag Company of Newton. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church and a past member of the Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife, Velvia; his two children; five grandchildren--Vickie and Cindy Hughes and Debbie, Dennis and Rickie Beaderstadt; one brother, Ed Hughes of Grinnell; and four sisters--Helen Schofield of Downers Grove, Ill.; Mrs. H.F. Bradley of Newton; Mrs. Nannette Foster of Hascienda, Calif., and Mrs. Frances McMahon of Lomita, Calif.

Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters--Dorothy and Beatrice.

Funeral services for Mr. Hughes will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. The Rev. Leo V. Kuebrich will officiate.

Organist will be Mrs.Leonard Pearce. Pallbearers will be Dale Scull, Dick Clark, Dean Clark, Larry Criswell, Ben Mitchell and Sam Stoaks.

Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery at Grinnell.

Rosary services will be held at 8 p.m. Monday at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home.
