OLD RESIDENT
OF LYNNVILLE
PASSES AWAY

(By a staff Correspondent)

Lynnville, Ia., Nov. 28, Special:

Sylvanus Herman Shahan was born in Independence, Virginia, Oct. 11, 1852, and departed this life, Nov. 19, 1933, aged 81 years.

He was united in marriage to Cora May Jones, Oct. 20, 1874, in Newton. Six children were born to them: Alma A. Cunningham of Roland, Lulu E. Morris of Lynnville, Daisy J. Sinnet of Oakland, Calif., Leonidas G. Shahan of Winfield, Ia., Gertrude M. Justice of New Sharon, and Willis Herman Shahan, Lynnville. Lulu and Herman were the only ones to preceded him in death.

He confessed his faith in Christ and with his wife united with the M.E. church in 1907, which was a great joy to him all the remaining years and especially comforting, when about three years ago he was stricken with arthritis and heart trouble, which resulted in his death.

He and his wife lived 59 years in Lynnville and gave their family their best interest in all that might assist them.

Truly it may be said of him, by all who knew him best, when he saw the light he kept the faith.

Funeral services were held from the home Tuesday afternoon, with Rev. Giles Youngquist in charge, using as his text, John 14:1-2. A mixed quartet composed of Mrs. Will Allee, Mrs. Harvey Gause, A.T. Gifford and Charles Potter, sang "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere," and "The Old Rugged Cross." Pallbearers were L.T. Gause, Lee Starr, Ray Sparks, George C. Renaud, C.O. Macy and Charles Briggs. Burial was in the Woodland cemetery.
