HENRY BETTENGA

Henry Bettenga, 88, of Grundy Center, the father of H. Harris Bettenga of Grinnell, died Friday, March 15, at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home in Grundy Center, with burial in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer.

The son of William and Bertha Brower Bettenga, he was born Aug. 19, 1902, in Windom, Minn. He grew up near Fern and attended rural schools in Grundy County. He had been employed by several businesses in Waterloo, Marshalltown and Grundy Center. He managed Zender and Caldwell Clothing Store in Grundy Center for several years. He was a member of the Waverly Baptist Church.

He was married to Carrie VanDeest Feb. 26, 1935, in Grundy Center. They began farming near Dike and later moved to a farm near Tripoli.

Mr. Bettenga is survived by his son, Harris; one daughter, Varina Dinsdale of Greenville, N.C.; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; three sister, Vera Bettenga of Aplington, Cora Albright of Bradford and Florence McManus of Florida; and one brother, Edward Bettenga of Oregon.
