AMANDA MAY COTTRELL

Amanda May Cottrell, 91, of Grinnell died July 20, 2013, at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, July 23, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell with Pastor Dan Hair (son-in-law) of Ogilvie, Minnesota, officiating. Pallbearers will be Doug and Scott Cottrell, Austin Fischer, Tony Hall, Jason Glofelty and Steve Bailey. Burial will be in Ivy Hill Cemetery in Malcom.

Visitation with the family present will be held 30 minutes prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to St. Francis Manor.

Amanda was born May 19, 1922, in Lineville, Missouri, the daughter of Orville and Alta Vaughn Duncan. She was raised in Grinnell and attended school in the Grinnell School District.

On June 3, 1939, she was united in marriage with Estel Cleveland Cottrell, in Princeton, Missouri. The couple lived for many years in the Grinnell and Malcom area prior to moving to Newton in 1982. After the death of her husand in 1999, she returned to Grinnell to live and had been a resident at St. Francis Manor since 2007.

Amanda was a homemaker for many years and took great pride in raising her children and tending to her home duties. She enjoyed attending flea markets and garage sales and collecting southwest jewelry and antiques. She enjoyed crocheting, traveling to Kentucky to visit relatives and listening to country music.

Survivors include two children, David Cottrell of Newton and Gloria (Dan) Hair of Ogilvie, Minnesota; one brother, Kenneth Duncan of Rapid City, South Dakota; seven grandchildren, Tim (Lynn) Cottrell, Tammy (Michael) Thompson, Doug (Wendy) Cottrell, Scott (Carrie) Cottrell, Jeannie Marie Cottrell, Amy (Tony) Hall and Jen (Jason) Glotfelty; and twenty-two great grandchildren April Cottrell, Crystal Richardson, Catfish Cottrell, Dakota Noftsger, Matthew Mitchell, Makaela Irwin, Michelle Mitchell, Kristen Mitchell, Zachary Thompson, Dalton Cottrell, Paige Cottrell, Kristen Metz, Katherine Metz, Ian Mullins, Samantha Mullins, Makaela Lloyd, Dustin Tratchel, Morgan Tratchel, Reagan Cottrell, Austin Fischer, Emily Rene Fischer, and Leah Hall. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Estel; two brothers, Cleveland and Charles Duncan; and two sisters, Ann Cogley and Bea Audas.
