ARLINE DUNN O'CONNOR

Arline Dunn O'Connor, 77, formerly of Grinnell, died suddenly Aug. 16, 2013, in her home in Osage Beach, Mo., with heart problems.

Memorial services for Arline O'Connor will be held in Osage Beach at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church on Tuesday Aug. 20, at 10:30 a.m. Inurnment will be in Lake Memorial Gardens Veteran's Wall in Osage Beach.

Arline was born Arline Kay Dunn on Jan. 25, 1936, in Wheatland, Iowa, to Gladys and Melvin Dunn. Following the death of her mother in 1938, she was raised by her cousins Martha and Alfred Kallenbach. THe family moved to Clinton, Iowa, when she was six years old. She had many summer visits with her dad and brother Gene on the farm and later included her two step-sisters. Her new siblings consisted of four sisters and one brother.

She attended Clinton schools. Following graduation she was employed by Interstate Power Company in Clinton.

She was married to David O'Connor on Sept. 1, 1955. They moved to Ames, Iowa, where twin sons Steven and Brent were born. Following several moves due to employment, the family settled in Grinnell, Iowa. During her life there she was active in the Methodist church, worked at Stewart Library and Iowa Southern Utilities Company. She was active in Grinnell General Hospital Auxiliary, United Methodist Women, and helped with Special Olympics at Ames for a number of years.

The couple retired to Osage Beach, Missouri, in the year 2000. She was active for a time in United Methodist Women at Harper Chapel United Methodist Church and also sang with the choir. She loved her family, her home and her many friends, some going back as far as grade school days.

She especially loved raising her sons and the great times shared with her four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother Gene; cousins Martha and Alfred Kallenback; and siblings Velda Kroeger, Vivian Cargill, and Dolores Elleson.

She is survived by her husband of 58 years, David; her sons Steven and his wife Kathy and Brent and his wife Nancy; grandchildren Shawn, Joshua, Andrea and Danny; great-granddaughter Sydney; siblings Gerald and his wife Claire Kallenbach, and Dorothy Lichtenstein, Janice's husband Richard Wilson; and Lou Ann and her husband Bob Reyes.
