REBECCA S. DAYTON

Rebecca S. Dayton, 51, of Grinnell, died Friday, Sept. 13, 2013, near Brooklyn of injuries she received in a motorcycle accident.

A funeral service was held Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, at Herrick Chapel on the Grinnell College campus with Rev. Deanna L.K. Shorb, chaplain of Grinnell College, officiating. Casketbearers were Garry W. Dayton, Ryan Dayton, Matthew Dayton, Dustin Sharp, Doug Snider and Tom Patten. Inurnment at Hazelwood Cemetery.

Memorials may be directed to the American Alzheimer's Association and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home, P.O. Box 368, Grinnell, Iowa 50112.

Rebecca was born on March 16, 1962, in Cedar Rapids to Larry and Linda Patten Snider. The family lived in Illinois and California and later returned to Iowa. She attended public school in Grinnell and later graduated from B.G.M. High School with the Class of 1980. She lived in Arizona and Maryland for a few years and was married to Garry E. Dayton on March 2, 1992, in Brooklyn, Iowa. She worked in food service at Grinnell College for over 20 years, and was a Chef de cuisine prior to her death.

She was a member of the American Culinary Federation and she enjoyed tending to her flower garden, riding her motorcycle, listening to music and cooking for family and friends.

Survivors include her companion of eight years, Carter VandeStouwe of Grinnell; her children, Garry W. Dayton of Montezuma, Delaney Sharp of Grinnell, Ryan Dayton and Matthew Dayton, both of Ames; her father, Larry Snider of St. George, Utah; her mother, Linda Patten of Grinnell; and one brother, Doug Snider of Waterloo.
