NOEL B. TAYLOR

Noel B. Taylor, 96, of Grinnell, died at St. Francis Manor in Grinnell on August 11, 2013.

Memorial services are scheduled for 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 4, 2012, at the Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell. Visitation with the family present will be held one hour prior (11:00 a.m.) to service time at the funeral home. Burial will be in Hazelwood Cemetery in Grinnell.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Imagine Grinnell - Grinnell Area Recreational Trail Fund.

Noel was born on a farm near Ames, Iowa, September 6, 1916, the son of George Fay and Maude Stuart Taylor. He spent his childhood on the farm and in Ames, where he graduated from Ames High School in 1935.

On July 28, 1940, he was joined in marriage to Margaret Strachan of Humboldt, and they remained happily married more than 71 years, until Margaret's death in 2012.

Noel and Margaret were long-term residents of Grinnell, where they had many friends. After a long career with the Prudential Insurance Co., Noel retired and became an avid bicyclist, an activity in which he made a whole new set of friends.

Noel is survived by five children: Robert, of Grand Rapids, Michigan; Gordon, of Salem, Oregon; Warren, of Des Moines, Iowa; Beth, of La Canada, California; and Paul, of San Ramon, California; as well as seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret, and twin grandsons, Christopher and Patrick.
