ASENATH 'SENIE' TAYLOR

Asenath "Senie" Taylor, 87, of Grinnell, died on Monday, Sept. 10, 2012, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A memorial service will be held in Greenfield, Ind., with inurnment in the Mount Lebanon Cemetery in Greenfield.

A memorial gathering will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 22, at Smith Funeral Home in Grinnell.

Memorials may be directed to the First Baptist Church in Grinnell.

Senie was born on July 1, 1925 in Greenfield, Ind., to Edwin and Nellie Scott Cooney. She was raised in Greenfield and graduated from Greenfeild High School with the Class of 1943. She spent most of her life in Greenfield and was employed as a mortgage officer at the Greenfield Banking Company.

Senie was married to J. Douglass Horine for 32 years and they had three children. Following his death, she was married to Milton E. Glascock for 20 years. In 2002, she married Harry Taylor. The couple spent summers in Grinnell and wintered in Edinburg, Texas.

She was active in church having grown up in the United Brethren in Christ Church and later been baptized by the Rev. Cyrus Herod in the Greenfield Christian Church. She most recently joined the First Christian Church of Mission, Texas. Music was the main theme of her life and she sang in numerous choirs, the ladies quartet "the Quakerettes" and a ladies trio, "the Lord's Chords." She also served as director of several choirs, and for many years traveled and gave vocal concerts and led hymns-fests in campgrounds.

Senie was active in the Order of Eastern Star and served as Past Matron of the Miriam Chapter, and Past Deputy of District Six of the Indiana Grand Chapter. At the time of her death she was a member of the Anderson Chapter #154 of Eastern Star.

She is survived by her husband, Harry Taylor of Grinnell; her children, K. Denise Rohring and Mark Horine, both of Greenfield, and Joseph R. Horine of Carthage, Ind.; three step-daughters, Deborah Tondre, Kimberly Staudt and Jennifer Ramirez; 16 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; the great great grandchildren; one brother, Dr. Jerald Cooney of Springfield, Mo.; and many other friends and relatives.

Senie was preceded in death by two husbands, Douglass Horine and Milton Glascock; her parents; four brothers, Joseph, James, Jack and Jan; and two step grandsons.
