HELEN M. LAVENT

Helen M. Lavent, 76, of Rte. 1, Kellogg, died Friday, April 20, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.

Graveside services were conducted Monday morning at Hazelwood Cemetery, with the Rev. Anthony G. Farrell of St. Mary's Catholic Church officiating. Pallbearers were Milvoy Haase, Jerry Jansen, John Lavent, Keith Van Sickle, Kenneth Van Sickle and Roger Zylstra. Memorals in Mrs. Lavent's name may be left at the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Peter and Carrie Weaver Cleppe, she was born Dec. 12, 1913, in Iowa City. She graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1931 and taught in rural schools. She later was employed by the Pioneer Seed Co. in Des Moines.

She was married to George M. Lavent Jan. 30, 1946, in Des Moines. The couple farmed southwest of Grinnell.

Mrs. Lavent is survived by a son, John of New York City; a daughter, Martha Van Sickle of Mitchellville; one sister, Gladys Haase of Belle Plaine; and three brothers, Wallace and Lloyd Cleppe of Brooklyn and Larry Cleppe of Ames. She was preceded in death by her husband, George; a daughter, Judith Louise in infancy; a son, Joel and her parents.
