VAN TOMME SERVICES HELD AT BROOKLYN DEC. 26

Funeral services for a longtime resident of the Brooklyn community, Mrs. Clemance VanTomme, were conducted by the Rev.John Kennedy at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Brooklyn, on Monday, Dec. 26.

Burial was in Calvary cemetery at Brooklyn. Casket bearers were her grandsons: Gerald Goodrich, Frank Van Tomme, Dean Van Tomme, Dale Van Tomme, Marvin Lacaeyse and Dennis Van Tomme. Assisting with flowers were Bill and Hildegarde Heitsman and Mr. and Mrs. Fred Van Renterghem.

Mrs. Van Tomme, 80, died Friday evening, Dec. 23, in an Iowa City hospital from injuries received earlier that day in an auto accident at the intersection of highway 6 and 21 near Victor in Iowa County.

Born Clemance Boerganjon, Oct. 1, 1886, in Belgium, she came to the United States in 1906. She married Emil Frank Van Tomme at Patterson, N.J., on April 12, 1906. They lived in Kewanee, Ill., until 1914 when they moved to a farm south of Brooklyn. They lived in the Brooklyn community since except for six years when they lived near Deep River. After leaving the farm, Mrs. Van Tomme lived in Brooklyn.

Survivors include her son, Rene of Montezuma; two daughters, Mrs. Virgil (Mary) Goodrich of Marengo and Mrs. Fred (Laura) Lacaeyse of rural Montezuma; 10 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; a sister in Belgium and a daughter-in-law.

She was preceded in death by hr parents, her husband, one son, one grandson, one brother and one sister.
