ALVERDA RHOADS, 79

Alverda Mary Rhoads was born on July 21, 1931 in Malcom, to Virgil and Mary Goodrich. She died at Bergan Mercy Hospital in Omaha, Neb., on Jan. 28, 2011.

Alverda graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1948. She married Joseph Rhoads on Jan. 6, 1950, in Brooklyn. They lived in Grinnell, until moving to Collins in 1956.

Alverda was a member of the Collins American Legion Auxiliary and retired from R.H. Donnelly in 1988. She and Joe wintered several years in Texas and Arizona where they met many new friends.

Alverda is survived by her husband, Joe of Collins; three daughters: Mrs. Vicki (Terry) Legvold of Charlotte, N.C., Mrs. Merily (Mark) Atwood of Collins, Mrs. Kelly (Robert) Miller of LaVista, Neb.; one son, Mr. Gregory (Debora) Rhoads of Colo; one sister, Shirley (Gene) Bartachek of Brooklyn; as well as eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Alverda was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, Wayne and Gerald Goodrich; and two grandchildren.
