ONNO GUY

Onno Guy, 86, of Grinnell, formerly of Ames, died Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2007, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

A funereal service was held Thursday, Dec. 20, at Grinnell Christian Church with John Epperson, pastor, officiating. Music was by Barbara Chitwood, Lorna Lang and Marlene Toney. Casket bearers were his grandchildren, Travis and Tyler Guy, Bryan and Julie Gilbreaith and Emily and Aaron Guy. Burial was in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Grinnell Christian Church or Grinnell Regional Hospice.

He was born May 1, 1921, in Green City, Mo., to Frank and Frona Hunsaker Guy. He was raised in Green City, graduating from Green City High School. During World War II, he served with the United States Army Air Corps in China, Burma and India. On July 3, 1946, he was united in marriage with Marcille Shoop in Newtown, Mo. The couple lived in Green City and he was employed as a meat cutter for local food businesses and also worked for the MFA. The family moved to Ames where he was employed in the meat department of Super Valu Foods, Inc. and Hy-Vee Foods Inc. In 1970 the family moved to Grinnell where he was employed in the Hy-Vee Food Store meat department until his retirement in 1987.

He was a member of Grinnell Christian Church and the Grinnell American Legion.

He is survived by his wife Marcille of Grinnell; one daughter Jennifer Gilbreaith of Grinnell; twin sons, Terry Guy of Colo and Jeff Guy of Monticello and six grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett and Vernon Guy, and two sisters, Margaret Martin and Gladys Hauser.
