MAXINE S. GUYER, 84

Maxine Snook Guyer, 84, of Montezuma, died Thursday, April 7, 2005 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center.

Her funeral service as Monday April 11, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, with the Rev. Dennis Dorsheimer of the Jackson Church of Christ, Montezuma, officiating. Interment was at Masonic-IOOF Cemetery, Montezuma.

Casket bearers were Randy Guyer, Sam Couch, Jimmy Wahner, Marlyn Duinink, Dennis Snook and Mark Snook.

Honorary casket bearers were Edward Snook, Bruce Guyer, Gerald Guyer, Jerry Guyer and Billy Wahner.

Maxine was born March 9, 1921 at Decatur, the daughter of Grover Thurman Chamberlain and Madeline Minnion Martin. She graduated from Montezuma High School, and on Oct. 15, 1940, she was united in marriage with Hughie Snook. He died June 2, 1975. On Feb. 14, 1977, she married Harry Guyer, and he died on April 27, 2003. Maxine loved to babysit children and took care of several in her home. She also had worked at Grinnell Regional Medical Center for five years and cooked at the Grinnell Elks Club. Maxine was also a member of the Vashti Rebekah Lodge, receiving her 50-year pin in1997; the Order of Eastern Star, Pythian Sisters and the American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by three sisters, Frances Wahner of Cedar Falls; Hazel (Flossie) Couch of Murphysboro, Ill. and Elerine Guyer of Milwaukee, Wis.; several sisters-in-law; brothers-in-law; and numerous nieces and nephews along with other relatives and friends.

In addition to her two husbands, Maxine was preceded in death by her son, Alvin Snook; two sisters, Phoebe Marie Guyer and Cheryl Rose Cooney; and three brothers in infancy.

Memorials in her name may be directed to the Make-A-Wish Foundation or Montezuma Volunteer Fire and Ambulance.
