FRED YOUNT

Fred A. Yount, 84, of Brooklyn died early Tuesday morning, May 10, in the Brookhaven Nursing Home.

Services for Mr. Yount were 2 p.m. Friday, May 13, in First Presbyterian Church, Brooklyn. Rev. James B. Rea, pastor, officiated. Organist was Mrs. Anedra Sherwood and soloist, Chip Bennett. Flower attendants were Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ryan and Mr. and Mrs. William Korns. Honorary casketbearers were members of the "Coffee Gang." Casketbearers were Steve Kies, Greg Yount, Martin Pearson, Charles Nelson, and Richard Hammen. Interment was in Brooklyn cemetery.

A memorial fund has been established and may be left with the Nevenhoven Funeral Home.

Fred Austin Yount, son of Allen and Grace Crull Yount, was born Sept. 2, 1909 near Hartwick.

Mr. Yount received his education in a rural school, Hartwick School, and was graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1927.

He farmed southeast of Hartwick for sometime, then operated the Farm Service tank wagon and last was Poweshiek County Assessor for 16 years, retiring in 1974.

On Jul 28, 1930 he was united in marriage to Katherine E. Gross in Brooklyn.

Fred was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn. During his retirement he did volunteer driving for the Council on Aging.

Surviving are his wife, Katherine; one daughter, Patricia Kies of Brooklyn; two sons and their wives, Philip and Donna Yount of Tigard, Ore., and Duane and Darla Yount of Dania, Fla.; two brothers and their wives, Claude and Nan Yount of Olympia, Wash. and Lewis and Grace Yount of Bellevue, Wash.; one sister, Mrs. Edith Kriegel of Lacey, Wash.; nine grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Bruce Alan; one sister, Ruth Hammen; and an infant brother.
