FORMER RESIDENT
OF COUNTY DIES

Andrew Stanford, 68 year old resident of Tama county, passed away at his home five miles northeast of Toledo Sunday evening.

The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home. The Rev. DeWitt Clinton of the Methodist church had charge of the services. The body was taken to Gilman, where the Odd Fellows had charge of the services at the Gilman cemetery.

Mr. Stanford was born June 20, 1861 in Indiana, the son of George and Jane Stanford. He lived in Indiana for three years. His parents then moved to Iowa and settled in the vicinity of Montezuma. He attended the rural schools of that county.

He remained on the farm of his father until his marriage, Oct. 14, 1891 to Miss Mary Brechtill at Marshalltown.

The couple lived near Montezuma for the first year of their married life. The next year was spent in Marshalltown. Since that time he has farmed in Marshall, Poweshiek, and Tama counties.

Five years ago he moved to his farm northeast of Toledo. For the last nine years he and his son-in-law, Delmar Freese, have farmed in partnership. Their farm is in Otter Creek township.

Mr. Stanford is survived by one son, Wyman Stanford of Toledo, two daughters, Mrs. Aleta Freese, at home, and Mrs. Lottie Sparks of Montour; three brothers, William Stanford, James Stanford, and Thomas Stanford, all of Montezuma; and two sisters, Mrs. Margaret Williamson, and Mrs. Mary Doyle, both of Montezuma. One son, Bryan, preceded Mr. Stanford in death.

Mr. Stanford was a member of K.L.S., and of the I.O.O.F. lodge of Sheridan.

The pall bearers were Henry and Otto Schultz, Earl Soth, Jacob Shope, and Ernest and John Lynch.--Tama News Herald.
