LEONA OCHS, 95

Leona Ochs, 95, of Deep River passed away Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, March 20, at the Holland-Coble Funeral Home in Montezuma. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Burial will be held in the Golden Rod Cemetery in Deep River. Memorial contributions may be made to the Deep River Fire Department. Friends may sign the online guestbook at www.hollandcoblefuneralhomes.com. Holland-Coble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Leona Lavelle Ochs, daughter of Ailey and Pansy (Workman) Hicks was born on Dec. 30, 1917 in Poweshiek County. She attended country school in the Poweshiek area. On Nov.20, 1937, Leona was united in marriage to Melvin Ochs in Vinton. To this union three children were born. After they were married, Melvin and Leona ran the oil station in Deep River for a few years before they started farming. They farmed in the Deep River area most of their lives. Leona enjoyed cooking, gardening and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was a member of the United Church in Deep River.

She was preceded in edath by her parents, Ailey and Pansy Hicks; her husband, Melvin Ochs; two children, Stan Ochs and Murlene Rauch; and several brothers and sisters.

Leona is survived by her daughter-in-law, Rita Ochs of Brooklyn; her son-in-law, LaVern (Irveen) Rauch of Montezuma; her five grandchildren, Kathy Simonton of Desoto, Jenea (Michael) Keith of Lampe, Mo., Jennifer (Mike) Hildebrand of Brooklyn, Heather (Mike ) Holmstedt of Brooklyn and Angie (Jay) Riddell of Sparland, Ill.; 11 great grandchildren, Chad Simonton, Ryan Simonton, Garrett Keith, Kaitlyn Hildebrand, Allison Hildebrand, Madison Maschmann, Mason Maschmann, Madalyn Holmstedt, Ryan Holmstedt, Ryan Ridell and Cooper Riddell; and her three great-great grandchildren, Kennady Simonton, Noah Simonton and Grayson Simonton.
