ORA THORNTON DIES;
BURIAL IN VAN METER

Ora Thornton, 84, of 331 East St. in Grinnell, died Tuesday morning following an extended illness.

The son of William and Olive Thornton, Mr. Thornton was born Jul 2, 1883, near Van Meter, Ia.

On Feb. 26, 1907, he married Stella McNair. To this union were born a son and a daughter, LaVoy Thornton of Marengo and Mrs. Clark (Faye) Brink of Grinnell.

Mr. and Mrs. Thornton lived in Grinnell for a number of years where he was an employee of Ritter's Hardware. In 1934 they moved to Ames where he was employed by Carr Hardware Co. After retiring, Mr. Thornton returned to Grinnell to be near his daughter.

Survivors include his son and daughter; one sister, Mrs. Mary Smith of Van Meter; and one granddaughter, Diane Brink.

Mr. Thornton was preceded in death by his parents, his wife who died in 1950, two brothers, one sister, and two infant grandchildren.

Funeral services for Mr. Thornton were held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at the Fisher Funeral Home in Van Meter. The Rev. Don Jones officiated.

Burial was in the Thornton cemetery in Van Meter.
