DAVID F. MADDY

David F. Maddy, 80, of Grinnell, formerly of Newton, died of Parkinson's disease Tuesday, Feb. 4, at St. Francis Manor after a long illness.

A funeral service will be held Saturday, Feb. 8, at 10:30 a.m. at Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. Fritz Kramer, retired, and the Rev. Cathleen Bascom, pastor of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church in Newton, officiating. Burial will be in Oakview Cemetery in Albia. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at Smith Funeral Home where the family will be present from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday evening. Memorials may be made to the St. Francis Manor Activity Fund.

The son of Carl and Jenny Davis Maddy, he was born July 12, 1922, in Buxton. He grew up on a farm near Weller and graduated in 1938 from Lovilia High School. He was married to Lois Williamson on Aug. 27, 1943, in Unionville, Mo. The couple farmed near Weller for several years prior to moving to Albia in 1950. They moved to Newton in 1966 where he was employed for 30 years with Maytag, retiring in 1982. He was a member of St. Stephen's Episcopal Church and the Moose Lodge. He had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since 1997.

He is survived by his wife Lois of Grinnell; two children, Dennis Maddy of Marion and Dianna Kelley of Newton; two brothers, Ben and Richard Maddy, both of Albia, and four grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Russell, Wayne and Donald Maddy.
