GERALD W. ROBERTS, 73

Gerald Wilbur Roberts, 73, died Friday, July 6, 2007, at the VA Medical Center in Iowa City.

His funeral service was Tuesday, July 10, at Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma with burial following at the Jackson Township Cemetery, Montezuma. Watts Funeral Home, Montezuma, was in charge of the arrangements.

Gerald, the son of Francis Gerald Roberts and Irene Hulda Tedro, was born Sept. 13, 1933, at Laurel, Neb. He graduated from high school in Council Bluffs and went on to graduate from Simpson College with a business degree.

On June 15, 1958, Gerald was united in marriage with Janet Opal Byers at the Montezuma Methodist Church. Gerald worked in advertising, assisting many newspapers throughout his career. He was an Eagle Scout and a past member of the Lions Club and Jaycees. Gerald enjoyed playing cards and coin collecting. He had served his country in the United States Army.

Those left to honor Gerald's memory include his son, Jon Roberts of Des Moines; is daughter, Lori (and Jim) Chedester of Laurel; his grandchildren, Jennifer Roberts, Jeremy and Rachel Chedester, Deena Chedester; and his sister, Sherrell Bolon of Rolla, Mo.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Janet, on April 15, 2006; and a son, Michael.

Memorials may be designated in Gerald's name.
