RITES HELD SUNDAY

Mrs. Sherman Delk passed away Friday evening, July 19, at the hospital in Montezuma, following a brief illness.

Flossie Hoit Delk, daughter of J.E. and Leota B. Hoit, was born November 18, 1897, in Grinnell, being 37 years, eight months and one day old at the time of her death. She was united in marriage to Sherman Delk of New Sharon March 18, 1934. To this union one child was born, Dorothy Ilean.

She was graduated from the New Sharon high school in June, 1918, after which she took special work at Penn College, fitting herself for teaching. She then entered educational work, teaching school or six successive years. After she closed her school work, she took a correspondence course in art. She engaged in this line of work until the time of her death. She possessed rare ability as an artist, was a lover of nature and a close observer wherever she went. The rippling stream, the quiet nook, the flocks, the herds and the gorgeous sunset never escaped her attention.

She is survived by her husband, little daughter, parents, two brothers, Ennis and Donald, both of New Sharon, and one sister, Mrs. Amy Banta, of Centerville, besides a large number of relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon in the yard under the old elm tree, with the Rev. Eli Gregson, pastor of the Little Mount Baptist church in charge, assisted by Miss Florence Baker. Mrs. Edith Ver Steegh and Mrs. Beulah Rogers sang.
