RITES HELD

Burial At Boyhood Home
Cedar Bluff, Iowa

Funeral services were held Friday, May 13 for William Lippincott who died Wednesday morning at his home following a three months illness. The Reverend Fred Miller had charge of the services which were held in the Methodist church here. Pallbearers were John, Howard, Russell, and Charles Lippincott, Elmer Strong and Harlan Johnston.

Burial was in a country cemetery near Cedar Bluff, Iowa, the boyhood home of Mr. Lippincott.

William Marion Lippincott, son of Robert and Elizabeth Lippincott was born at Marion, Ohio, Oct. 31, 1855 and died at his home in Brooklyn, Wednesday, May 11, 1938 at the age of 82 years, six months and eleven days. He came to Iowa with his parents when he was six months old. He liked to tell the story of how his mother carried him across the frozen Mississippi river in her arms when he was six months old. The family settled in southeastern Iowa near Cedar Bluff, now an inland town.

He attended school in Cedar Bluff and grew up in that community. On June 23, 1877 he was married to Ellen Monk. They observed their 60th anniversary together last summer.

They lived near Cedar Bluff for sometime and later moved to Missouri. They returned to Iowa in 1896 and in 1906 they came to Poweshiek county. Mr. Lippincott farmed for about fifteen years near Brooklyn and about fifteen years ago moved to town where he has since resided.

He was one of a large family of whom three are still living. They are all living in Columbia, Missouri, a brother John and two sisters, Mrs. Laura Cross and Mrs. Belle McNear.

Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Lippincott. Two have preceded him in death and surviving him besides his wife are the following children: Ray, Jim and Mrs. Ernest Byers of Brooklyn, Robert, Homer and Mrs. Grace Caughey of Grinnelll and Mrs. Lena Zesiger of Moscow, Iowa.
