Funeral Held Wednesday;
Had bakery 42 Years

William E. Goff, 76, longtime Grinnell businessman, died Monday evening at his home at 1012 West street following an illness of one year.

Funeral services were held Wednesday afternoon at Smith's funeral home in charge of the Rev. W.F. Overhulser, Methodist church pastor.

Pallbearers were Glen Bell, Don Farmer, Omar Olson, Clair Strand, Don Sowerwine and John Thompson. Organ music was furnished by Prof. Hoyle Carpenter. Interment was in Hazelwood cemetery.

Operator of a bakery here for 42 years, Goff sold the Broad street business to Glen Bell, Jr., on May 28, 1951. John Thompson now operates the bakery.

Son of William Goff and Anna Higgenbottom, William Earl Goff was born in Ohio Aug. 28, 1876. He was married June 10, 1919, at Newton to Alda Slater who preceded her husband in death as the result of an auto accident at Marshalltown Aug. 29, 1951.

The deceased was a resident of Grinnell 50 years, moving here from Brooklyn. He was a member of the Masonic and Elks lodges.

Surviving are two daughters, Mary Louise at home and Mrs. Anna Marie Pothast of Melbourne; also a brother, John Goff of Brooklyn; three sisters, Mable Goff of Grinnell, Pearl Smith of Brooklyn a and Grace Williamson of Bell, Calif.; and four grandchildren.
