SALLY IRENE KELLEY

Sally Irene Kelley, 91, the widow of Manson Kelley, died Thursday, Nov. 16, 2006, at Mayflower Health Care Center.

A funeral service was held Monday, Nov. 20, at Carman Center at Mayflower with John Epperson, pastor of Grinnell Christian Church, officiating. Pianist was Pat Saxton and vocal music was by Bill Surbrug. Graveside services were held Monday afternoon at Violet Hill Cemetery in Perry. Memorials may be made to the Sally Irene Kelley Memorial Fund.

The daughter of Robert Lee and Artie Mae Ashley Foshee, she was born Dec. 16, 1914, in Texarkana, Ark., and was raised and educated in Arkansas. She was married in 1932 in Arkansas to Claude Davis who served in the United States Army during World War II and was killed action while serving in the European theater. She was married to Perry Manson Kelley on Dec. 21, 1944, in Little Rock, Ark., and they lived in Arkansas and other locations in the United States before moving to Perry, Iowa, in 1954. In Perry she was employed as a seamstress and did alterations with Gardner Clothing Store and Ellis Dry Cleaning. She also was employed in the dietary department at the Lutheran Home in Perry. The Kelleys moved to Grinnell in 1974 and she was employed at Grinnell General Hospital and Grinnell Christian Church.

She was a member of Primitive Baptist Churches in Arkansas, Winterset and Grinnell, and attended Grinnell Christian Church here.

She is survived by two daughters, Carol Dean of Grinnell and Sally Kelley of Chicago, Ill., and two grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her stepfather, Tom Garrett; two husbands; one brother, Freeman Foshee; one stepbrother, Troy Garrett, and one stepsister, Lela James.
