ERNEST "BUD" HUEFFNER

Ernest "Bud" Hueffner, 93, of Grinnell, died on Wednesday, June 20, 2012, at his home.

A celebration of Bud's life will be held at 4 p.m., Sunday, July 29, 2012 at the Grinnell Christian Church, followed by a reception.

Memorials may be directed to the Shriners Hospitals for Children or the Salvation Army.

The Smith Funeral Home of Grinnell is handling arrangements.

Bud was born on April 24, 1919, in Racine, Wisconsin to Martin and Catherine Light Hueffner. He was raised in Racine and graduated from Park High School in Racine in 1936. He received a Ph.B. degree in Business Administration and Economics from the University of Wisconsin in 1942. During World War II he served as a Captain in the United States Army and following the war he spent eight years in the Army Reserves.

On June 23, 1943, he was married to Jeanne Mink in Starkville, Mississippi. The family lived in Pennsylvania, Utah and Racine, Wisconsin before moving to Grinnell in 1960. He owned and operated the Hueffner Oil Company in Grinnell from 1960 to 1990.

Bud was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church, the Masonic Lodge, the Iowa Oil Jobbers Association and the Older Iowa Legislature. He served on the City Council in Racine. Bud enjoyed outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, camping and traveling.

He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Jeanne Hueffner; four daughters, Katharine (Terry) Peters of Grinnell, Sally (William) Long of Scottsdale, Arizona, Elizabeth (Richard) Beal of Modesto, California and Debra (Pedro) Weisleder of Dublin, Ohio; one son, William (Marina) Hueffner of Portland, Oregon; 11 grandchildren, Cristine (David) Toney, David (Ninotchka) Peters, Jenny Long Perna, Robert Long, Timothy (Amber) Long, Christopher (Cheyanne) Beal, David (Carla) Beal, Anatasia Hueffner, Catherine Hueffner, Alexandra Hueffner, Joshua Weisleder; and 12 great grandchildren, Rachel and Renee Toney, Douglas and Grant Peters, Alexandra and Cameron Perna, Boden and Blake Beal, Alexandra and Paul Beal, Austin and William Long.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert; and his brother, William Hueffner.
