--Died, Wednesday, Dec. 20, 1893, at 3 o'clock p.m., at his home in first ward, after an illness of two weeks, Mr. Cornelius Wilkins, at the age of 64 yrs., 8 mos. and 4 days. Deceased was born April 16, 1829, in Licking Co., Ohio, and here he grew to manhood. In 1854 he came to Scott Co., where Dec. 28, 1858, he was united in marriage with Miss Miranda Van Evra, who survives him. His health was never the best and in 1866, with Mrs. Wilkins he went to Colorado to see if the mountain climate would not help him. They traveled overland, he being at that time sick. They lived there for over fifteen years, subsequently locating in other places. In 1884, they came to Grinnell and occupied a farm on the edge of the city. In the spring of 1892, his health not being very good, he removed to town, and has been numbered with our citizens since. Mr. Wilkins will be remembered as an affable, courteous gentleman honorable in is dealings and an upright and desirable citizen. He was a man whom it was a pleasure to meet. He has lived life's battles well and has gone to a good man's reward.

A short funeral service was held yesterday afternoon at 2:30, conducted by Rev. E.M. Vittum, a company of friends being present. The music was furnished by A.C. Harriman and W.A. Little, and Misses Hibbard and Worcester. Last night the body was taken to Scott Co., where at Pine Hill it will be interred today in the Van Evra lot. Mrs. Wilkins and Mr. and Mrs. J. Van Evra accompanied it from here to its last resting place.
