CHARLOTTE A. PHILLIPS

Charlotte A. Phillips, 82, of Grinnell died Sunday, Feb. 4, at St Francis Manor.

A memorial service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Saturday at the Grinnell United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Raymond C. Lott officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner.

The body has been cremated, and burial of the ashes will be in Hazelwood Cemetery. Memorials in Mrs. Phillips' name may be made to St. Francis Manor and sent in care of the Smith Funeral Home.

The daughter of Peter Sorenson and Bertha Augusta Stockman Busk, she was born Feb. 12, 1907, at Charlotte, Iowa. She graduated from Clinton High School and attended business college at Sterling, Ill. She taught at Charlotte and Oxford Junction.

She was married to Edd W. Phillips April 4, 1931, at Oregon, Ill. The couple lived in Grinnell where Mrs. Phillips worked at the former Broadway Department Store, Ross', and Hammon's Apparel. She was a member of the United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Phillips, who had been cared for by her son-in-law James Hawtrey since the death of her husband and daughter, is survived by three grandsons. She was preceded in death by her husband; her daughter, Mary Jane Hawtrey; five brothers, Harry, Raymond, William, Frank and Schiller Busk, and four sisters, Ruby Petersen, Elfie Smith, Carol Riddle and Gladys Busk.
