Charlotte Ione White was born in Lewiston, N.Y., May 22, 1835. Departed this life March 22, 1906, at the home of her son, A.S. White in Grinnell, aged 70 years and 10 months. She moved with her parents when quite young to Ann Arbor, Mich., where she grew to womanhood. She graduated from the high school in Ann Arbor and also from the Ladies' Seminary in Cleveland, Ohio. She was left motherless at the age of fifteen years. Later she went with her father to Brockville, Canada, where she made her home with an uncle, and taught school for several years. She was married to Amos White Sept. 12, 1858. In 1864 they moved to Henry Co., Ill. To them were born 5 children. One boy passed to the higher life at the age of eight years. Two daughters and two sons being left to mourn their loss, Mrs. A.A. Reno, Mrs. J.R. Craven, Mr. A.A. White and Mr. A.S. White and they were all with her during her illness. She was a great lover of little children and her greatest sorrow was to see them in trouble or in tears.
She was a kind, loving mother devoting all her time to her family, depriving herself of many comforts for her children's sake. She united with the Methodist church of which her father was minister, when quite young. She was the youngest of a family of seven children, all of whom have preceded her to the higher life.
