Francis M. Arment, 78, of Grinnell died Saturday morning at St. Francis Manor.
Funeral services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. Philip J. Ramstad, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational officiating. Organist will be Kathleen Heffner, and vocalists will be Ruth Ann Dayton and Wilma Schmitz. Burial will be at Hazelwood Cemetery.
A memorial in Mr. Arment's name has been established at St. Francis Manor.
The son of George and Nellie Fleener Arment, he was born May 8, 1903, at Searsboro. He attended rural school in the Searsboro area.
On Aug. 20, 1924, he was married to Grace Wood at her parents' home in the Blue Point community. Mr. and Mrs. Arment farmed in Poweshiek County until moving to Grinnell in 1938. Following his career in farming, Mr. Arment was employed by the DeKalb Co. in Grinnell; worked as a carpenter with his brother, Howard Arment; and later became a custodian for Parker School and the United Church of Christ-Congregational. He retired in 1977 and had lived at St. Francis Manor for the past two years.
Survivors include his wife, Grace; his children, Doris V. Gray of Mesa, Ariz., Clarence B. Arment of Columbus, Neb., Harold L. Arment of Estherville and Lucile A. Garbison of Mesa; 12 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Merle Arment of Searsboro and George A. Arment of Montour. He was preceded in death by his parents, one granddaughter, four brothers and three sisters.
