HELD TODAY FOR
MOZELLE HIGBY, 59Mrs. Ernest (Mozelle) Higby, 59, of Kellogg, died Tuesday morning at a Grinnell hospital following an extended illness.
Funeral services were held this afternoon (Thursday) from the Kellogg Methodist church with the Rev. L. Duane Churchman, pastor of the St. Luke Methodist church of Newton officiating. Vocal music was provided by Mrs. Russell Dunn, accompanied by Mrs. Ray Simpson at the organ.
Flower bearers were Mrs. Alfred Ponder, Mrs. O.C. Norton, Mrs. Don Marshall, and Mrs. Roy Meyer. Pallbearers were Maynard Caulkins, Harley Coomer, Floyd Miller, Delbert Jacobs, Don Foster, and Don Marshall. Those desiring may contribute to the Kellogg Methodist church memorial fund.
Interment was in Our Silent City cemetery at Kellogg with James-Schalinske Funeral Home in charge.
The daughter of William P. and Lillian May Young Janeway, she was born on April 22nd, 1905, near Kellogg. She attended the Kellogg schools and completed her last two years of high school at Newton, graduating with the class of 1923. For a number of years she taught school in the Turner community.
On November 29th, 1923, she was united in marriage with Ernest Higby at Knoxville. Following their marriage they lived in Newton for nine years. Since 1932, they had resided in Kellogg.
Mrs. Higby was an active member of the Kellogg Methodist church, teaching Sunday School classes and serving as a leader in the youth groups while her health permitted. She was also a member of the WSCA group of the Kellogg church.
Surviving are her husband, Ernest; a son, Wayne L. of Eldridge; a grandson and granddaughter; her mother, Mrs. W.P. Janeway of Kellogg; a sister, Mrs. Roy (Eloise) Doane of Newton.
She was preceded in death by a son, Maynard, and her father.
