Glenn L. Dexter, 81, of Grinnell died Thursday, Sept. 13, at Grinnell General Hospital.
Funeral services were conducted Monday at the Smith Funeral Home, with the Rev. James Rea, pastor of the First Presbyterian Church of Brooklyn, officiating. Organist was Anedra Sherwood, and pallbearers were Warren Dexter, John Higdon, Raymond Koger, Steven Koger, Gayle Sherod and Howard Vanness.
Burial was in Chester Cemetery.
The son of Robert and Maud Wood Dexter, he was born Sept. 23, 1908, near Montezuma. He attended Poweshiek County schools and later attended Grinnell High School.
On Jan. 20, 1934, he was married to Hazel Squire in Newton. The couple farmed in the Blue Point area south of Grinnell for 45 years, moving to Grinnell in 1979. Mr. Dexter had been a resident of St. Francis Manor since May of this year. He was a member of the Oak Grove and Sonora Granges and a 50-year member of the National Grange.
Surviving are two daughters, Carol E. Herington of Bettendorf and Janet M. Ryan of Brooklyn; six grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife and two brothers, Ralph and Eldon.
