MR. PICKHARDTLester L. Pickhardt, 72, of 206 Sixth Ave., Grinnell died Saturday, April 23, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services were conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Gerald F. Brown officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner.
Pallbearers were Ronald DeBondt, Gene Fritsch, Gerald (Pete) Cline, Randy Lidtka, Franklin Reimers and Russ Sadler. Honorary bearers were Conrad DeBondt, Charles Dillon, Earl Lidtka, Robert Fontinel and Kent Wise.
Burial was in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. A Lester L. Pickhardt Memorial Fund has been established.
The son of Louis and Elizabeth Cogley Pickhardt, he was born May 4, 1915, in Sheridan Township. He attended rural school in Sheridan township and graduated from Grinnell High School.
He was married to Gylena B. Johnson Oct. 4, 1950, in Grinnell. The couple farmed in Sheridan Township, retiring and moving to Grinnell in 1985.
Mr. Pickhardt was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church, the Farm Bureau, the B.P.O. Elks Lodge, and the Eagles Lodge.
He is survived by his wife; a daughter, Wanda S. Watt of Grinnell; a son, Lowell L. of rural Malcom; one grandson; and a sister, Ilene Weyrauch of Grinnell. He was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister who died in infancy.
