SERVICES HELD

Mamie I. Johnson, 89, of 902 Prince St., Grinnell, died Tuesday, July 28 at Bethesda Care Center in Toledo.

Funeral services will be conducted at 10 a.m. Friday at the Grinnell Christian Church, with the Rev. John Epperson officiating. Organist will be Jolene Jones, and pallbearers will be Charles, George, Gordon, Larry and Michael Johnson and Lowell Pickhardt. Burial will be in West Liberty Cemetery near Searsboro, with the Smith Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

She was born at Exline on Jan. 16, 1898, the daughter of William and Belle Viola Kirby Mikles. She attended Appanoose County schools.

On Jan. 9, 1923, she was married to Harry L. Johnson at Montezuma. The couple farmed in Searsboro area until moving to Grinnell in the early 1950s.

Mrs. Johnson was a member of the Grinnell Christian Church, the women's auxiliary of World War I Veterans, and the Bunker Hill Booster Club of Searsboro.

She is survived by a daughter, Gylena B. Pickhardt of Grinnell; 11 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Holly Mikles of Mesa, Ariz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; two sons, Delno and Lavern Johnson; three sisters and two brothers.
