Wilhelmina Amelia "Billie" Broe, 89, of Springfield, Ill., died at home in Grinnell Saturday, Jan. 1.
Private family services were held Jan. 3 at Calvary Cemetery in Springfield. A Catholic Mass and memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 22, at Christ the King Church in Springfield.
She was born Sept. 21, 1910, in Louisville, Ky., the daughter of William F. and Gertrude Schoenbachler Martin. She married Rolla Edward Broe in 1941 in St. Louis, Mo. President of R.E. Broe, Inc., he preceded her in death in 1968.
Mrs. Broe, a resident of Grinnell since 1996, was a 46-year resident of Springfield. She was an accountant and former comptroller for Broe, Inc., and the Goodwill Industries of Springfield. She was past president of Springfield Women's Club and the Mariama Club, a member (since 1955) of Island Bay Yacht Club, the Springfield Art Association, the Illinois State Museum Society, the Newcomer's Club and the Sangamon State Historical Society.
Surviving are a son, Patrick Dennis Broe of Denver and Vail, Colo., and Wheatland, Wyo.; one daughter, Mary Lynn Broe of Grinnell and Ithaca, N.Y., the Louise R. Noun professor at Grinnell College; and four grandchildren.
Four sisters, Olivia Ervin, Leora Ewald, MaryBelle Miller and Gertrude Rowden, preceded her in death.
