Clara S. Soesbe, 92, a resident of Mayflower Home, died Sunday afternoon at Grinnell General Hospital, following an extended illness.

The daughter of William and Charlotte Speer Stuart, she was born June 24, 1880, at Iowa City. She received her education in the public schools there. A graduate of the University of Iowa, she was a member of phi Beta Kappa. When she was 20, she toured the continent of Europe with her father.

In June of 1904, she was married to Clarence W. Soesbe. He preceded her in death May 9, 1950. She made her home in Waterloo until January of 1957 when she moved to Grinnell. In 1959 she became a resident of the Mayflower Home. The past several years she had lived in the Health Center; she had been hospitalized the past 3 1/2 weeks.

Survivors include her two sons, Lee of Tullahoma, Tenn., and Earl of Melrose Park, Ill., as well as several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Beside her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents and a daughter, Eleanor in May of 1967.

Funeral services for Mrs. Soesbe were held at 11 a.m. today (Thursday) at the James-Schalinske Funeral Home, with the Rev. Newell E. Davis, pastor of the United Church of Christ-Congregational, officiating. Organist was Kathleen Heffner, and pallbearers included Harris Stafford, Charles DeLong, Dick Ulrich, and David DeLong.
